About Margot FW Halstead

Margot is passionate about interpersonal communication, which led to all of her professional decisions from becoming an effective facilitator, working with struggling teams to improve communications to restore business effectiveness, becoming a coach specializing in the communication aspects of leadership and to working with companies to determine the health of their culture. This passion has culminated in her upcoming book, The Magical Ok: Shifting Conversation to a Constructive Destination.

Margot was lead team engagement specialist, executive coach and creator of leadership development programs with several large government contracting clients—SAIC, Leidos, Orbital ATK and Northrop Grumman—for more than a decade. She functioned in both leadership and individual contributor roles, while excelling at project and change management for missions identified as enterprise-wide and affecting cultural change. Margot was a trusted advisor to the highest levels of company leadership as a talent management thought leader and executive coach. She designed, created and implemented coaching and advancement protocols, expanded fledgling succession processes and supported leadership decisions by designing and implementing cohort programs.

Margot has extensive experience designing, creating and implementing various types of mentoring programs, including “mentoring for all,” formal, informal, strategic and ad-hoc components. With outstanding project management skills and extensive experience in business change management and assisting with large-scale, enterprise-wide human resource information system upgrades and entire business separations, she brings the rare combination of a balance of business knowledge, project management know-how and interpersonal communications.

Margot also possesses more than 10 years of corporate executive coaching experience—both as an internal coach and with private clients, specializing in assisting leaders with career-damaging interpersonal skills. She has a direct coaching style with keen intuition and frequently hears feedback from clients, like “How did you know that?” or “It feels like you have known me for years,” driving swift and accurate results. A hard driver with a soft inside, Margot is caring and compassionate, reserves judgment and holds her clients accountable.

In addition, Margot’s background includes managing legal partnerships in the top Washington, D.C., law firms of Squire Patton Boggs; Morgan, Lewis and Bockius; and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. She has taught foundational and advanced communication classes at several DC area colleges. Margot’s educational background include receiving an MBA from Marymount University and credentials as a Professional Certified Coach from iPEC Coaching and a Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute, which provide her with the business acumen to serve the needs of a wide range of clients.
