Ready-to-Deploy, Accredited Curriculum Helps DoW, IC Rapidly Build AI Workforce Capability
Alexandria, VA, July 16, 2026—FedLearn, an artificial intelligence-powered provider of online, adaptive learning solutions that delivers content contextualized to federal government mission areas—particularly in the U.S. Department of War and Intelligence Community—today announced that Digital University launched a comprehensive, accredited AI literacy pathway for the national security workforce composed entirely of FedLearn courses to enable defense and intelligence organizations to immediately comply with new federal AI workforce requirements.
The AI Literacy for National Security learning pathway is in direct response to National Security Presidential Memorandum-11 Section 5(c)—announced on June 5, 2026—that directs the U.S. Department of War and Intelligence Community to develop a workforce AI literacy for national security curriculum within 120 days.
The new learning path leverages FedLearn mission-contextualized AI curriculum and is comprised of 21 vetted courses across six domains:
- AI foundations – AI and machine learning fundamentals
- Data literacy – governance, quality and trustworthy data
- Generative AI and the frontier – large language models, prompt engineering and staying current with technology advancements
- Capabilities and implications – mission applications and impact
- Limitations, trust and risk – ability to verify, calibrate and catch errors
- Responsible use and governance – ethics, policy and accountability
The pathway also includes Workera pre- and post-assessments that measure learner proficiency before and after course completion—providing objective data on skill improvement.
“AI is rapidly becoming a critical competency across the national security enterprise,” said Dr. J. Keith Dunbar, FedLearn founder and chief executive officer. “Rather than generic commercial AI training, the DU/FedLearn AI literacy pathway prepares national security professionals to apply AI responsibly within mission contexts—strengthening workforce readiness and accelerating operational effectiveness.”
Organizations can deploy the pathway immediately—eliminating the need to develop or curate their own AI curriculum. The pathway is delivered through DU’s IACET-accredited learning platform to enable learners to earn continuing professional education credits upon successful completion.
Access to the AI Literacy for National Security learning path is available to personnel with an active DU account whose organizations purchased FedLearn seat licenses through DU. Eligible users may locate the pathway by searching for “AI Literacy for National Security” on DU and submitting an access request.
