About This AI Online Course

Defense organizations understand that building an artificial intelligence-ready force is not optional—it is a strategic necessity to maintain decision advantage and operational superiority in an era of rapid technological change.

The Defense Innovation Board’s Campaign for an AI-Ready Force calls for a campaign-level effort to prepare the military to seize opportunities and respond to threats using AI at scale.

This online course will introduce you to the vision of an AI-ready force—defined as one capable of understanding, developing, deploying, sustaining and scaling AI in support of missions—and the four pillars of AI readiness. From addressing talent shortages and upskilling the current workforce, to mastering data as a strategic asset, modernizing infrastructure through enterprise cloud and rethinking organizational processes, each pillar is critical to building sustained AI capacity.

The course also places the campaign in context with the broader AI journey of the defense enterprise, including the release of the DoD Data Strategy,* the adoption of DoD Ethical AI Principles* and the establishment of the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office.

By the end, you will better understand how the Department is aligning strategy, policy and capability to achieve a truly AI-ready force.
