FedLearn and Damien O’Connell Team to Offer Controversy & Clarity Podcast and Decision Games to Learners

Alexandria, VA, April 4, 2023—FedLearn, the first-to-market, online, artificial intelligence-powered learning solutions provider offering content specialized and contextualized to federal government mission areas—particularly in the U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community—announces a partnership with decision game expert and military historian, Damien O’Connell, to offer his podcast series, Controversy & Clarity, and decision games and military history content to learners.

Episodes of Controversy & Clarity, a podcast of the Warfighting Society, are now available on the FedLearn online learning platform at no cost to users. New podcast episodes will be regularly added to the platform moving forward.

Controversy & Clarity features in-depth interviews with notable retired and active-duty U.S. generals and diplomats; innovative, active-duty military leaders; pioneering scientists and academics; and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors. The podcast is dedicated to encouraging honest debate and discussion across the DoD and larger Western defense community. Recurring topics include professional military education, operational experiences, decision making, decision games, military history, critical thinking, leadership and small unit tactics. A leading effort of the Warfighting Society, Controversy and Clarity has acquired more than 44,000 streams and was recognized in 2020 as one of the “Top 10 Military Podcasts” by DODReads.

Through the partnership, O’Connell will also develop decision-forcing cases and other decision games to be offered via FedLearn.

O’Connell is the owner of DAO Consulting, a non-resident fellow with Marine Corps University’s Brute Krulak Center for Innovation and Future Warfare and the founder and director of the Warfighting Society. He has successfully facilitated educational events and workshops for the Marine Corps’ the Basic School, numerous Marine Corps battalions, Recruiting Stations New York and Boston, Naval Service Training Command, Virginia Military Institute and several allied military organizations. Previously, O’Connell was a senior learning and development consultant with Cognitive Performance Group, where he co-facilitated and later led the Innovation Instruction Workshop sponsored by the Marine Corps’ Training and Education Command. As a senior fellow for the Case Method Project at Marine Corps University, O’Connell also led the effort to institutionalize decision-forcing cases at TBS.

“FedLearn is thrilled to welcome Damien O’Connell to our expanding list of exceptional content partners,” said Dr. J. Keith Dunbar, FedLearn founder and chief executive officer. “Via Damien’s world-class expertise, we can now offer the insights that decision games and other military-specific topics can generate to help our learners become more effective leaders, strategic thinkers and communicators in support of mission success.”

“I’m a big believer in the innovative services FedLearn offers and look forward to sharing decision-forcing cases, tactical decision games and other content to learners via its outstanding, AI-enabled platform,” O’Connell said.
